And I shouldn't have made the joke about bringing large black trash bags to the launch ... and maybe I shouldn't have said "well if it crashes can we have a camo paint job on the next V2", but I really don't think it was the comments that caused the problem. Maybe we just need heavy duty motor cases! Oh, and thank you Frank Yonkers for the WONDERFUL photos ... the new lense is great!"

Burl's Big 10-inch V2

Our friend Burl has too many extraordinary flights for us to keep track of, and now that he has finished his law degree he seems to be flying more often than ever. His most recent interest is EX, which means more flights and more varied results.

I was surprised to realize this week that we had very little material posted on Burls big 10-inch V2 from Polecat Aerospace (other than this little anecdote reported [HERE!]). But his flight in March 2007 was memorable enough to warrant its own web page.

First, here is a photo of the V2 flying successfully on a commercial motor.

Fast forward to March 2007.

Here is Burl gettin' jiggy wid it.

(Burl takes issue with me making fun of his habit of kissing his rockets goodbye. In my opinion, he needs to rethink this practice based on recent outcomes.)

The fun begins. The forward closure blows out of the 98mm motor casing, creating a spectacular fireball!

I like this photo even more with the flaming debris being sprayed everywhere.

This photo shows how the debris from the CATO impacted the pad with enough force to bend the base. That is the Aeropac retainer sitting in the crater.
