Todd Haring Bio
It's sad that as you get older you can only remember enough about your life to fit in about 4 or 5 paragraphs. I was born and raised in a town named Big Flats, NY. Like most I flew rockets as a kid...guess what my favorite Rocket was? That's right the Der Red Max. I flew that one until the I couldn't glue the fins on any more.
Stopped flying when I started playing golf - about age 12. Played golf in high school and college. Was going to be a golf professional (teaching pro at a club). Had my job lined up in Raleigh, NC after college and decided to go into insurance instead (long story).
Lived in Syracuse, NY from '87 - '99. Married Stephanie - she put up with my obsession for golf and NASCAR and DIRT Track Racing (she would bring a book) Have two girls that love to fly rockets as well - Olivia and Maddy and of course a Dog named "Hogan" after Ben Hogan - not Hogan's Heroes.
Moved to AZ in '99. Golf game was back to the college form.... Met Billy and Liz. Billy asked me to go to GHS in '02 - he was going to take pictures. Bought rockets for the girls and well - got hooked after seeing RTV and the rockets that you guys flew.
Bought a new rocket everyweek and flew them every weekend for a few months - then scratch built my first DRM. Billy and I found out own launch site between 91st and 95th Ave in northern Peoria, AZ. Billy and I vowed we would never built a large rocket - e engines cost too much. That lasted until Dec. when I started on my 3" DRM. Finished it X-mas day and flew it sideways on new years - the first flight - those Estes E's are no good. Stuck in an F21 and was hooked even worse.
Golf game was beginning to deteriorate - blamed it on the kids and work...might really have been my new distraction - rocketry.
Level 1 - my first attempt was the scratch-design Little O II - Lawn dart. Immediatly stuck an H in the 3" DRM and certed on that an hour after the Little O II crashed.
Moved to Charlotte, NC in '03 - to take a job with The Hartford Ins. Co. Found a few clubs and met Burl through you. Burl and I fly in Orangeburg, SC. Burl introduced me to E-bay and ROL and boy is that a bad thing. I am also member of the local Club in Charlotte, NC.
Somehow Rocketry has replaced golf. I fly rockets more than I play golf at this point - it really is a sickness.
L2 in Oct. with the 6" DRM.
